Destination Freedom was a groundbreaking radio series that aired from 1948 to 1951 on WMAQ in Chicago. Created by Richard Durham, the show aimed to reeducate the public on the contributions and struggles of African Americans by presenting biographical histories of prominent figures like George Washington Carver, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Tubman. The series was known for its powerful storytelling and positive portrayal of Black characters, which was quite radical for its time.
