Doug’s Palestine

What’s This Podcast
About?

WELCOME TO DOUG'S PALESTINE! This no-frills and no-nonsense PODCAST is for anyone anywhere who wants to stay informed on the most current news related to the Palestinian struggle to survive and thrive. This podcast will make you more current, competent, and confident in your ability to share the Palestinian story with your friends, family, and neighbours. I'm doing this podcast because I believe that Israel's occupation of the West Bank and ongoing assault on Gaza represents the world's most current & salient case-study on man's inhumanity to man. It is exponentially escalating, and regular people everywhere need to better understand it to know how to effectively oppose it. This daily 5 minute podcast will help. Who's Doug Hart, anyway? A 60-year-old secondary Humanities and English teacher who has a wife, two adult kids, a dog, and a cat. A former Republican state lawmaker from Michigan, Doug has lived and taught in Palestine, Oman, Morocco, Slovakia, and the USA. He is currently living and teaching in Prague, Czechia. Other Relevant Biographical Points: Doug has taught the Holocaust and pre-war Germany as a classroom subject in four separate schools. He integrated the Holocaust into his curriculum at the Sultan's School in Oman when he learned that students were completely unaware of what happened to the European Jewry. Doug was also the first to teach the Holocaust at the Ramallah Friends School in 2006 (and likely the first teacher in Palestine to teach the Holocaust at the secondary level). Doug believes that Holocaust education should be an integral part of the educational experience of all students everywhere. Doug traveled to Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland several times (epicenter of Holocaust), and took his son Justin when he turned 12 years-old. He thought it was important for him to learn what mankind is capable of and to absorb those two important twin mantras: Never Forget and Never Again. While teaching in Ramallah, Doug fell in love with the Palestinian people and admires them to this day for their extraordinary resilience and general good temper while living in an extremely difficult and hostile environment. What does Doug ultimately want in the holy land? Doug wants a kumbaya world – where all people – Jews and Gentiles alike – are able to enjoy peace, self-determination, and prosperity at every level. It's that simple.
