31 July 1954, 6 PM Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni embrace one another on K2: they’re the first to ever climb the second tallest peak of the world. Conquering K2 is an athletic effort, but it’s also much more than that. It’s also an iconic moment, which touches the hearts of Italians right when they are rebuilding after the war. Because going to K2 is like going to the moon. 70 years later, this podcast tells the story of that adventure and the impact that K2 had on the national collective imagination as well as on an entire country that was trying to find itself right in that moment.
