Welcome to my new podcast. On a recent visit to one of America’s largest cities, I walked into a JCC where the Israeli flag flies proudly at the entrance. In the locker room, a local woman leaned toward me and whispered: “I’m a Zionist.” She didn’t feel it was something she could say out loud - even though Israel’s Independence Day is celebrated every year on the lawn just outside. That quiet whisper captures the profound crisis world Jewry is facing today. Some are indifferent to Israel. Others turn their backs on it. But many Jews – Zionists in different shades - still care deeply, feel connected, maybe want to show their support. And yet, over the past two years, their lives and emotions have been shaken. Their sense of safety has been eroded, and a wide range of feelings – pride, embarrassment, anger, criticism, fear, solidarity – colors their relationship to Israel. This podcast is my attempt to listen, to learn, and to give space to those voices. For Israeli listeners, it’s a way to better understand the lives of our brothers and sisters abroad. For Jews around the world, who sometimes feel alone in facing this new reality, it’s a reminder: you are not alone. Follow the podcast so you won’t miss what’s next.
