Director Paul Verhoeven often uses B-movie genre as a vehicle for complex human emotions, social satire, and shocking sex and violence. Is this genius subtext the artist's intent or our own imagination looking for cosmic connection where none were intended. We call this dilemma the Verhoeven Effect
