Dr. Abu Zayd is the founder and director of the Quran Literacy Institute, a globally respected scholar in Islamic studies and Qur’anic sciences. With extensive academic and traditional training, he holds formal degrees as well as classical ijāzāt (licenses) in all ten canonical modes of Qur’anic recitation, variant readings (shawādh), and the six major books of ḥadīth, making him a leading authority in Qur’anic and Islamic scholarship. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies from the School of Islamic and Arabic Studies (American Open University) and a Master’s degree from the Islamic University of Minnesota under the mentorship of Shaykh Dr. Waleed Edrees Al-Maneese. He also holds a Diploma in Classical Islamic Texts from Cambridge Islamic College and an Advanced License in Islamic Scholarship (Shahādah al-ʿĀlimiyyah) from Al-Salam Institute, UK, where he studied under the renowned Dr. Muḥammad Akram Nadwī. Dr. Abu Zayd is the author of *Children’s Bequest*, a foundational Tajweed textbook based on the first English translation of *Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl*, a classical poem on the rules of Qur’anic recitation. He has memorized the Qur’an in full and possesses a unique blend of traditional and academic expertise, with direct scholarly transmission from recognized scholars around the world. His work is driven by a deep passion to preserve and convey the richness of the Islamic scholarly tradition while promoting unity, tolerance, and excellence in education. Among his key spiritual and scholarly influences are Maulānā Muḥammad Yūsuf Iṣlāḥī of India, Shaykh Muḥammad Akram Nadwī of the UK, and Shaykh Dr. Waleed Edrees Al-Maneese. Dr. Abu Zayd continues to serve the global Muslim community by developing accessible, high-quality resources that connect modern learners with the depth and beauty of classical Islamic knowledge.
