Dive into the life and mind of British naturalist Charles Darwin with his compelling autobiography, published posthumously in 1887. Originally titled Recollections of the Development of my Mind and Character, Darwin penned this revealing memoir for his family between May and August 1876. His son Francis Darwin edited the initial version, leaving out several of Darwins critical views on religion. However, these sections were eventually restored by Darwins granddaughter Nora Barlow in a 1958 edition celebrating the centenary of The Origin of Species. While the original version is in the public domain, the later version remains copyrighted. Learn about one of the most influential figures in the history of science through his own words.
