Imam Dawud Walid is a prominent American Islamic scholar, author, and activist currently serving as the Executive Director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI). He is also a Senior Fellow at Auburn Seminary in New York and an active member of the Imams Council of Michigan. Imam Dawud Walid is widely respected for his advocacy on civil rights, anti-racism, and Islamic spirituality, playing a pivotal role in community organizing and interfaith dialogue throughout the United States. Imam Dawud Walid has authored several influential works addressing the intersection of race and faith. His titles include Blackness and Islam and Towards Sacred Activism, both of which are widely used in Muslim community circles and academic settings. He also co-authored Centering Black Narrative: Black Muslim Nobles Among the Early Pious Muslims and Centering Black Narrative: Ahl al-Bayt, Blackness & Africa. These books explore the presence and significance of Black Muslims in early Islamic history and their continued importance today. Additionally, he contributed essays to All-American: 45 American Men on Being Muslim and Qur’an in Conversation, and wrote the foreword to The Spirits of Black Folk: Sages Through The Ages. His upcoming work, Futuwwah and Raising Males Into Sacred Manhood, continues his mission of nurturing spiritually grounded Muslim men through a prophetic framework. Imam Dawud Walid is frequently invited to speak on issues of justice, prophetic ethics, and the Black American Muslim experience. Through his writing, public speaking, and leadership, he continues to uplift marginalized voices and inspire a generation of Muslims to engage in sacred, principled activism.
