About?

“Dimension X” was a science fiction radio series that aired on NBC from April 1950 to September 1951, and was later revived on Mutual from May to September 1952. The show presented adaptations of classic and contemporary science fiction stories, and often featured original scripts written by some of the genre’s most prominent authors, including Ray Bradbury and Robert Heinlein. The series was produced by Frederic Pohl, who later became a notable science fiction writer in his own right. The stories featured on “Dimension X” covered a wide range of topics, including space exploration, time travel, alien invasions, and artificial intelligence. The show was known for its high production values and innovative use of sound effects, which helped to create immersive and often unsettling atmospheres. The series was also notable for featuring some of the era’s most prominent radio actors, including Mandel Kramer, Bob Hastings, and Joseph Julian. Despite its relatively short run, “Dimension X” was highly influential in the development of science fiction as a mainstream genre. The show’s use of sound effects and music to create suspense and horror became a staple of later science fiction productions, including the iconic television series “The Twilight Zone.” The show also helped to popularize the work of many notable science fiction authors, and helped to make science fiction more accessible to a wider audience.
