Family Theater was a dramatic anthology radio show that aired from 1947 to 1957. It was unique in that it focused on wholesome, family-friendly entertainment with strong moral and religious themes. The show was produced by the Mutual Broadcasting System and was sponsored by the Catholic organization Family Theater Productions, founded by Father Patrick Peyton. Each episode featured a different dramatic story, often adapted from literature, history, or original scripts, with a rotating cast of Hollywood stars. Many well-known actors, including James Stewart, Gregory Peck, and Loretta Young, lent their voices to the program. The show also had a signature opening, where a guest star would deliver a short message emphasizing the importance of family prayer.
