Furhan Zubairi
Furhan Zubairi is an Islamic scholar, educator, and author with a strong reputation in modern Muslim communities. He was born in 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and spent much of his youth in Southern California, graduating from high school in Irvine in 2001. He began his formal Islamic education in 1998 at the Institute of Knowledge (IOK), where he memorized portions of the Qur’an and studied foundational texts in Arabic and the Islamic sciences. After beginning his undergraduate studies, he paused his education and travelled to Karachi, Pakistan, for nine months to complete his memorisation of the Qur’an at Jamiah Binoria. He later returned to the United States and completed a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, in 2005. Seeking a deeper grounding in classical Islamic scholarship, he travelled to Egypt to further his study of Arabic and then to Pakistan to complete a formal Alamiyyah degree, equivalent to a master’s degree in Arabic and Islamic studies, at Jamiah Dar al-Ulum in Karachi. He earned numerous ijazat, or traditional scholarly licences, in the six canonical books of hadith, as well as in works such as the Muwatta of Imam Malik and the Muwatta of Imam Muhammad. He also holds certification in Islamic finance. In his professional roles, Furhan Zubairi serves as Dean of the Seminary and Extension Programs at IOK in Diamond Bar, California. He is also active as a seminary instructor, a chaplain at the University of California, Irvine, and a community chaplain. He frequently delivers sermons and lectures throughout Southern California and beyond. Zubairi is a published author whose works include commentaries, introductory texts, and books on the Qur’an, hadith, jurisprudence, and other Islamic disciplines. His titles include In the Company of the Quran: An Explanation of Surah Maryam, In the Company of Scholars: A Commentary on the 40 Hadith of al-Nawawi, and Introduction to Usul al-Fiqh. Over time, Zubairi has become known for bridging traditional and contemporary approaches to Islamic education. His lectures aim to make classical knowledge accessible to modern audiences while preserving scholarly rigour. His involvement in chaplaincy and community engagement reflects a holistic approach that combines academic scholarship with pastoral care.
