As the Earth‚As faster-than-light spaceship drifted in the vast void between galaxies, Arcot, Wade, Morey, and Fuller gazed down at a breathtaking sight‚Aîa shimmering expanse of stars that formed their own island universe. Morey calculated rapidly with his slide rule, exclaiming, We made excellent time! Twenty-nine light years in just ten seconds! And you had it on only half power. With a determined push of the control lever to full power, the ship hummed with energy, and sparks crackled in the control room as they hurtled through the darkness of intergalactic space at unimaginable speeds. Suddenly, two brilliant ships appeared on either side, shadowing their course like an official escort. The Earth scientists exchanged astonished glances. Lord, Morey gasped, where could they possibly have come from?
