I wrote poems in my teens — until a trusted adult’s remark triggered shame. If only, instead, I had shared them with a friend. Now I do exactly that. I send an original poem to someone I love. They write one in conversation with mine. We read each other's work aloud, then follow the poems wherever they lead.
