“雅舍”是梁实秋抗战时期在重庆的居所，重庆《星期评论》邀其写专栏，于是便以“雅舍小品”为栏目名，将雅舍生活中息息相关的事物以风趣幽默的笔法写作刊载，将狗、猪、鸟等人们最熟悉不过的动物，及下棋、散步、理发等日常琐事娓娓道来，妙趣横生，受到大众喜爱。这类散文生动地描写了民国之初的社会面貌、文化习俗。
