Ja’afar Mahmud Adam also spelled Jafar Mahmud Adam or Ja’afar Mahmoud Adam was a prominent Islamic scholar and Quran reciter from Nigeria. Born in 1961 in Daura Katsina State Nigeria he was a highly influential figure in Islamic education and da’wah (preaching) in Nigeria particularly in the northern regions. While primarily known as a scholar and orator he was also a respected reciter of the Holy Quran. He primarily recited in the Hafs ‘an Asim narration. Digital Quranic archives feature recordings of his recitations and extensive lectures and Tafsir (exegesis) of the Quran. Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud Adam held degrees in Islamic studies and was known for his vast knowledge and ability to explain complex Islamic concepts in simple terms. He served as an Imam in various mosques and established numerous Islamic schools and centers. His lectures and Tafsir sessions were widely attended and broadcast contributing significantly to Islamic awareness in Nigeria. He was tragically assassinated in 2007 during dawn prayers in Kano leaving a profound impact on the Muslim community in Nigeria.
