This podcast is based on a book about a region that no longer exists. I set out to recover the past of Eastern Ukraine, but instead found myself preserving a present that was disappearing before my eyes. After 2022, this world was largely destroyed by the war in Ukraine. The book is built on my diaries, written in real time from 2017 to February 24, 2022 — a record of a place, its people, and a life that is now gone.
