Saleh bin Humaid (also spelled Salih ibn Humayd) is a prominent Quran reciter and Islamic scholar from Saudi Arabia, born in Buraydah, Qassim Province, in 1950. He primarily recites in the Hafs ‘an Asim narration. Digital Qur’anic archives feature numerous recordings of his recitations, including a complete recitation of the Holy Quran. His recitation is characterized by its clarity, solemnity, and impactful delivery, suitable for his distinguished position. Saleh bin Humaid graduated from the Sharia Faculty in Riyadh and obtained his Master’s and PhD from Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca. He has also served as the head of the Saudi Shura Council (Consultative Assembly) from 2002 to 2009, and is currently an advisor to the Royal Court and a member of the Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid memorized the Holy Quran at an early age. He pursued extensive Islamic education, earning a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degree in Shari’a from Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah. He was the first PhD holder to be appointed as a Senior Imam at the Grand Mosque in Makkah (Masjid Al Haram) in 1983, where he continues to serve as an Imam and Khateeb (preacher). He is also known for delivering the Arafat sermon during the Hajj pilgrimage. Beyond his role as a reciter and Imam, Sheikh Saleh bin Humaid has held numerous high-ranking positions in Saudi Arabia. These include being a member of the Assembly of Saudi Arabia (Shura Council) since 1993, serving as its Speaker from 2002 to 2009, and as Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council. He is also an advisor to the Saudi Royal Court and has served as President of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy. His multifaceted career showcases his profound knowledge in Islamic jurisprudence, his administrative capabilities, and his deep commitment to Islamic scholarship and public service.
