Selections from the Table Talk of Martin Luther

What’s This Podcast
About?

When Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door in 1517, he ignited a movement that would reshape Christianity and lead to the Protestant Reformation. His bold stance against indulgences and the notion of Papal infallibility resulted in his excommunication by Pope Leo X, and later, his declaration as an outlaw at the Diet of Worms. Harnessing the revolutionary printing technology of Gutenberg, Luther shared his thoughts far and wide. The first edition of his Table Talk (Colloquia Mensalia) appeared in 1566, comprising 80 chapters, while the complete work was published in Stuttgart and Leipzig in 1836, spanning an impressive 2,780 pages. Captain Henry Bell translated these selections from high German, bringing to life conversations with the great minds of Luther’s era, covering a range of topics from The Word of God to the workings of Imperial Diets. - Summary by Larry Wilson
