About?

This is a podcast version of Miles Okazaki's patreon channel. Okazaki is a guitarist and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. The first 70 episodes cover individual guitar studies of every composition by Thelonious Monk. These begin as practice videos without much talking and evolve into episodes on specific topics. After the Monk series, the episodes expand to include subjects such as improvisation, jazz standards, music theory, sight reading, rhythmic exercises, material from his book Fundamentals of Guitar, electronic music, thoughts about careers in music and creative fields, transcriptions of famous jazz solos, insights into his compositional process, behind the scenes of rehearsals and performances, and a post every Sunday studying the music of J.S.
